ConWare: The Future Posted 8:45PM GMT, September 7, 2003 by Tready ConWare is evolving. As our time at university quickly approaches (the next few weeks) and the prospect of surviving off the minimal loan is not one of joy. We have decided ConWare needs to change. ConWare will become two parts. The first will still provide quality freeware through www.conware.org. The second half will provide professional editions of our software for a price. Although the prices have not been finally decided, they are likely to be $10 to $15. Our payments will be handled by world-leader PayPal. The next version of IconArt is already nearly finished. It will be the first freeware to be converted into two editions. The plans for the professional edition includes a whole list of features designed to bring IA to the front of icon creation. The professional edition is also likely to include unlimited access to royalty-free icons. A full list of features for the two editions will be online shortly but until then please give us you comments on our current plans. Either email us at comments@conware.org or post it in our forum.

IconArt link sent to 250,000 Posted 3:42AM GMT, January 20, 2003 by Tready IconArt has won a Lockergnome award and has been featured on an email newsletter to over 250,000 people. Personalize your Desktop shortcut or File Explorer icons with your own. IconArt is a small utility for creating new icons and editing existing icons. The interface includes a color palette and a tools palette, which allows you to spray, fill, select objects, flip the image, change colors, rotate or move the image, and add masks. You know how the icons on the Desktop are larger than those in File Explorer? No worries here about having to create an identical icon from scratch to make it larger: IconArt can scale to various common icon sizes. Other than the ability to import and convert GIF, JPG, and BMP images to ICO, the program can also extract icons from EXE and DLL file types. Though there is no help file, the tools have ToolTips, which means a small box pops up with the name of the tool when you hover your mouse over the tool. I even successfully imported a GIF of Chris's head and turned it into an icon! For more information on scaling icons of different sizes, check the posts on the ConWare message boards. Idea: Personal Calendar - We need your feedback! Posted 3:12AM GMT, January 9, 2003 by Tready We are considering creating a desktop calendar and diary program that will allow you to store all your dates and plans in one easy place. These are the feature we want to have: > Monthly and yearly views. > Set multiply comments on each day and set times. > Reminders so you don't forget anything. > Desktop calendar - projects your calendar over your background image on your desktop. > Save birthdays and other important annual events & receive reminders a week in advance. Those are our plans which will be added to as we continue to plan the software. Does anyone have any other features they'd like to see? Post them online at http://www.conware.org/community/viewforum.php?f=16 or email us with your comments at contact@conware.org
Coming in the new year... Posted 1:18AM GMT, January 5, 2003 by Tready None of us know exactly what 2003 will bring us - and as the entre ConWare team will be either starting university or flying off on gap years it really is unknown. However, what is known is that ConWare will certainly remain active until the summer. We have not decided the practical side of keeping ConWare alive after that but we have 6 months yet. In the near future things are looking up with a leading French computing magazine requesting to carry IconArt on their cover CD and IconArt's downloads remaining high. InterChat3 has also maintained its steady download record. I should also mention that in the last year we had over 171,000 visits and there were over 1.4 million accesses to our files. We will be releasing a manual for IconArt very shortly and we are working on an update for IconArt itself that should fix several probelms such as the selection tool. More announcements soon...
