What is Inter-Chat?
Inter-Chat is a program that allows you to send messages between computers on a LAN. It runs in the background, when you want to send a message or an alert then you just right click on the icon and type away!
Where is Inter-Chat useful?
It is useful in any large community LAN or on a LAN where the computers are in different rooms. Its not so useful if there is only a few computers in the same room because you might as well talk to each other!
What's the difference between a chat or an alert?
A chat is where you have a conversation with one or more people over the LAN. An alert is were to send a notice to certain or all users. It is not intended to have a reply. It is for statements or requests like "End of session. Please log off."
How does it always receive alerts?
Inter-Chat is installed into your Start Folder. This means that it is run every time you start your computer. It runs in the System Tray. To send an alert you just right click on its icon on your toolbar.
How secure is it?
Inter-Chat isn't designed to be secure because it is for use on a LAN. It cannot as yet transfer files between computers. The only information that is sent is your screen name that you can set.
Will it work with ZoneAlarm?
Yes. However you must add Inter-Chat to the list of safe programs inside ZoneAlarm.
What do the status settings achieve?
When your status is set to Online you will receive all messages and alerts. When its set to away you will receive only alert messages. And when its set to static you will receive neither messages or alerts.
